Music Reviews…

Hello, everyone! After my last music-related post went over so well, I thought it would be fun to list some of my favorite musicians and/or songs in a post. Here we go!

Note: I am very conservative in most, if not all, areas of life, and music is no exception. Therefore, because of my convictions, you will not find any CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) on this list. If you have questions on this, feel free to comment on this post or contact me through this page. Thank you!

The Rains Family

This family has put together some wonderful vocal and instrumental music, which you can listen to for free on their website. I have a CD by them, called Christ is All, but I couldn’t find it online, so I unfortunately can’t put a link to buy it.

Falls Baptist Church & Baptist College of Ministry

I have one CD put together by this church, which I greatly enjoyed: I Found a Friend (by Mary Faith Van Gelderen Williams and Daniel John Van Gelderen). I also was able to listen to their Summer Ensemble, which was a real blessing as well. I haven’t listened to any music by them, but from what I have seen and listened to, they are a great resource.

SMS (Sacred Music Services)

I have listened to several of SMS’s recordings, and they were very good. My family owns Amazing Love and Be Not Discouraged, and they were both amazing (their rendition of “Only a Boy Named David” on Be Not Discouraged usually is requested to be played again 😀 ). I can’t recommend all of SMS’s music, because I haven’t listened to it all, but I think that it is probably good.

With Voice of Triumph Raised

This is an orchestrated piece that I found quite randomly, but I love it! It’s very beautiful, and I greatly enjoy listening to it. 🙂 It is an arrangement of a hymn. You can download the recording or listen to it online by clicking here.

Well, there you have it- some of my favorite musical pieces to listen to! Do you know of other great godly music? Please, let me know in the comments!

In Christ,

Keep up the desire to be conservative in your music, Leona!
We have some of the SMS cds too, and the Van Gelderen CD “I’ve Found a Friend”!!
I’ll have to check out the others. 🙂

I’ve never heard of these artists — I’ll have to look into them 😀 Have you heard of the Wissman’s? I really like their music — it is more blue-grassy, and really fun. And all Christian. And the instruments in the background are SO pretty!

Another favorite of our family are Keith and Kristyn Getty — they are reformed, conservative Christians, and their songs are always doctrinally sound. They aren’t bluegrass, through, I would classify them more as a mix of Celtic and classic, with strains of Scottish 😀 They are both Irish, and the music reflects that. They are a bit more upbeat, though, but not too much so =) AND they have music books for the music players, which I love!! Their album for children is actually one of my favourites — it literally brought me to tears the first time I heard it. (They took children from all over the world and recorded and overlayed the audio and there was one song in particular where you could hear all the different accents all worshiping and it was so beautiful :D)

Also Nathan Clark George. His music is a folk style, and all lyrics are directly from Scripture, mostly the Psalms. He mostly uses a guitar, though I think some of his albums now have additional instruments.

I would love to see more music related posts — I am always looking for more inspiration!

Yes, I have heard of both the Wissmans and the Gettys, but I haven’t listened to either of them much… I’m still trying to decide what I think about the blue-grassy style… 😉 I like the sound of it, but I’m still not sure what I think. 😛
Nathan Clark George sounds good, too! 🙂
